Fortunately, Braeden didn’t know what it was like to have his parents ashamed of him. His mother had always encouraged him to do his best and she was fine with that. But of course his best was the best out of the whole class and that always made her smile. It had been a disadvantage to Alexandria though because she was of average intelligence and settled for B’s, which was tolerated but not encouraged. If she tried a little harder she could get A’s too but that required commitment, something the girl didn’t have. He wished he could relate to Len on more than one level but he couldn’t. Her world was much too different and there was no getting around that. Being the caring person he was he wanted to console her but she was still high on the adrenaline she had received when she learned the news about her father’s lie and disapproval. Len needed to learn that it doesn’t matter what she does with her life so long as she’s happy. If she was happy then it was really none of anyone else’s business. She needed to not care so much about what her father thought or others for that matter. It would age her quickly and that certainly wouldn’t do especially when she’s in to social light all of the time. They might suspect drug use.
He winced at her reply, knowing she really wasn’t okay but she would get over it; she was a strong person. She was Elizabeth. Alright, good. Brey could only take so much more schmoozing before he threw up on himself. He didn’t really like stroking people’s egos. It was disgusting. He was dragged to go see Eleanor, who was finely dressed for her occasion. Brey prepared himself to be introduced for the thousandth time but when that didn’t happen, he saw why. Eleanor seemed to have an uncanny fanciness towards him and it was really… bothersome? He didn’t know how else to explain it. Her staring was making him feel a tad uneasy but it was slightly flattering as well. It was probably the first time tonight that someone had looked at him in that particular way. He looked to Len to see her reaction and for help to rescue him. Obviously, he had come here with Len and wasn’t going to leave with anyone else. Brey wasn’t that kind of guy and he certainly wasn’t going to disgrace her. Sorry Eleanor. Once again he followed Len, much like a loyal puppy, out of the room and down the hall. Braeden smirked at her declaration. Oh Len, my darling. You’re just jealous. You want me all to yourself. Obviously he was kidding and trying to make light of the situation. Whether that worked or not was another thing. Where might our travels take us next?
