myles glanced at the clock that hung up on the wall of the kitchen in his apartment and saw that it was already ten o'clock. shit. he mumbled to himself, though his puppy ringo seemed to perk his ears up at the sound of myles' voice. myles wasn't exactly running late, but he wasn't quite on time either. the major reason for his delay was the fact that he had yet to fully unpack everything and put it in its proper place in his apartment. so a lot of his things remained packed, and even the things he had unpacked were haphazardly distributed throughout the apartment. which explained why he had just spent the last ten minutes searching for his nikon, only to find it on the shelf in his bathroom. that alone was puzzling enough, but myles knew he didn't have time to worry about that now. instead, he grabbed the camera and slid it into its case, pulling the long strap of the case over his shoulder. next he went back into the kitchen and found his keys up on the counter, which was surprisingly where they should have been. his wallet was in the back pocket of his jeans, and that was pretty much all he needed. he slipped out the front door and slid the key into the door and locked it before stepping away and walking towards his car.
thankfully, it didn't take myles too long to reach his destination which was a dance studio of all places. myles had been brought up right by his parents and so he had attended some dance classes when he was younger, and then again with his best friend in college because she practically dragged him into it. so myles knew a little bit about dance, but not quite as much as the girl he was supposed to be shooting today. and she was supposed to dance ballet, which myles would admit that he knew next to nothing about. still, he knew how to take a good picture and that was mostly his mission for today. he was a bit excited for this shoot, it would be one of his first official shoots as a professional photographer. oh he had done plenty of shoots of practically everything, but this was one of the first times that he was getting paid real money to do it. he had been excited for his new job and now that he had arrived at the studio he felt a mixture of both excitement and nerves, which surprised him a little because myles was not usually a nervous guy. he wrote it off as first job jitters and tried to ignore the small knots in the pit of his stomach as he got out of his car and gathered his equipment in his arms. he reminded himself that he had done this dozens of times and he had nothing to worry about.
myles went up the stairs to the entrance of the building and opened the door, peering his head around. he was definitely in the right place, the building was clearly a dance studio. but it seemed a bit empty. myles glanced down at his watch to check and see if he was on time. his watch read ten twenty seven, so he was three minutes early. he simply shrugged and started setting up his equipment and getting his laptop ready to download the pictures instantly so that he could check the shots. as he was getting everything together, he called out into the empty space, his scottish accent rolling over his words, hello? anyone here?

the stereo system that sat in the corner of the mirrored studio blasted uptempo, classical music. a young, thin blonde stood in the center of the studio. her golden locks were pulled up into a messy bun held together with a handful of bobby pins. her lean body was covered by a plain, black leotard that crossed over her shoulder blades, a pair of black dance shorts, and a pair of faded, pink tights covered her small legs. she wore a pair of navy blue leg warmers just above her pointe shoes. her green eyes were focused on the mirror in front of her as she spotted herself, whipping her leg out to the side and pulling it back in as she performed several fouette turns in a row, jumping up onto pointe with each turn. she felt the sweat beading her face as she did her turns and she cringed slightly when a large wind chill suddenly hit her. she stopped and stood still, pausing the music.
she rested her hands on her hips, inhaling sharply for a moment before exhaling. she brushed the sweat off her face and straightened up her back, going back into a prep before doing one last turn. she heard the main door open and she muttered a curse under her breath. she had completely forgotten that someone was coming today to do an "article" on her. she wasn't used to people photographing her. well, she was, it just made her nervous. jaycee had always been a bit shyer than most dancers, though that didn't mean she couldn't speak up for herself. she was reserved, which was a better way to put it. she turned off the stereo and made her way down the hallways that turned, going up a few stairs to greet whoever it was that was coming to talk to her.
she stopped short at the sound of a voice that was probably the most beautiful she had ever heard. jaycee had always been a sucker for accents and this scottish one was no different. her eyes adjusted to the slightly dimmer lights of the lobby and they came to rest on a handsome face of the photographer or journalist or whatever he was. she was slightly taken aback when she saw him. usually there were a bunch of older men who loved to make small talk and were awkward with her and always had some way of trying to woo her, though it never really worked on her. she was quiet for a moment, almost forgetting her name. "Hi, sorry. I didn't hear you come in," she replied quickly. well, that was a big fat lie. of course she had heard him come in otherwise she would've still been in the studio practicing.
she wiped her hand off on the back of her shorts and outstretched her arm, gracefully, offering her hand in a handshake. "I'm Jaycee O'Callaghan, by the way. You are?" she introduced herself with a smile. she regretted her looks at the moment. she probably looked disheveled and sweaty, but she couldn't help it. her green eyes curiously took his features in. he was different from the guys she usually saw, but she liked it.

myles peered around a little bit as he waited to see if there was anybody there, although he was fairly certain there was because he had heard music playing. it seemed to be coming from downstairs, and myles was a bit surprised that this place had a basement. his eyes wandered over the walls of the building, looking at the photographs of dancers, his eyes studying the way that other photographers had captured the moment. myles wasn't planning on getting too artistic for these shots, they were after all, just for the newspaper. but still, that didn't mean that he couldn't take good shots and get his work noticed. for myles it wasn't about the money because he had enough of that. no, for him it was more so proving to himself, as well as others, that he could do it. that he could truly become a successful photographer, even with his slightly troubled past. some doubted him, most notably his aunt, but she had never been supportive of him anyways, so that did not come as a shock. still, myles was determined to prove her wrong. and this shoot was his amongst his first stepping stones on the way to success.
but his thoughts of success and determination were quickly placed on the back burner once myles caught sight of the girl who had just come up the stairs. she was on the petite side and her athleticism showed clearly. but it wasn't the kind of hulking athleticism you saw in some girls, no, hers was far more refined and well, graceful. which should not have been that big of a surprise to myles seeing as how she was a dancer, and a rather good one according to the article he was taking pictures for. still, each step she took had both purpose and poise and myles was a bit in awe of this. not to mention that the rest of the girl was absolutely stunning. she had a face that almost anyone would call pretty, and bright green eyes that were hard to ignore. as she walked towards him, myles straightened up from having just set his equipment up and pulled his lips into a smile as she made her way to him. she apologized for having not come up sooner, to which myles shook his head and admitted not your fault at all. was probably a bit cheeky of me to just let myself in anyhow. myles's blue eyes remained on her face as she extended her hand and introduced herself. myles shook her hand in his, once again surprised by how graceful and delicate her hand was. when she said her name, myles cracked a grin and said o'callaghan, eh? is it irish? don't worry, i won't hold it against you if it is. his broad grin and tone told her that he was only teasing, he meant no disrespect by it. then he introduced himself i'm myles hampton. i get the privilege of photographing you today. and all he could think to himself was what a privilege it would be.
his heart beat had increased since he caught sight of jaycee and myles reminded himself that he didn't need to screw this up. but that also didn't have to mean that the two of them couldn't joke around and flirt a little, right? that was just the kind of guy myles was, and if it appeared to make jaycee uncomfortable then he would stop. but myles was still new in town and was a social person, he liked meeting new people and talking to them and finding out what their story was and how they were different from all the other people he knew. plus, myles had been a little lacking in female company for the past few days, so a beautiful blond was certainly a nice change. myles picked up the camera in his hand, turning it over and checking that he had properly loaded the film. then he brought his blue eyes up to meet her green ones, a little smile forming on his lips. he asked her do you need to change or anything, or are you ready? not saying i don't like the outfit, you pull it off much better than i ever could. his eyes sparkled with amusement as he watched the girl to see if she would enjoy his sense of humor as well. hopefully she did, or else this was going to be somewhat of a long day.
