over and over phaedra had gone through the scenario. time and time again she’d spent hours, minutes, and even full days trying to figure out what the hell was going on with her life. when she’d first moved to the hampton's, things seemed almost perfect. for the first time in her young life, she'd managed to get out of brooklyn, something she'd only dreamed of up until then. sam had provided her with all the luxuries that money could buy, but even more than that, he gave her a place that she could truly call home. why he'd decided to take her in in the first place was beyond her, but she'd been gratefully nonetheless, whether she showed it enough or not. now that he was gone, phaedra wasn't sure what to do with herself anymore. she'd moved in with atticus for the time being, till she could scrounge up enough money to get a place of her own, and got a job as a waitress down at a local cafe. she didn't make much, but it was a start. she'd do whatever it took to stay here, because there was no way in hell she was going back to brooklyn.
getting up from the bed where she'd been laying, phaedra glanced in the mirror across the room and winced. her silky brown locks were listless against her bony shoulders, her collar bone protruding and barely any evidence of make up crossed her features. she’d barely done anything since she’d been home from work, but now, she decided, was time to do something. breaking out the curling iron, she plugged it in and meandered around the room, extracting random articles of clothing and streaming them across the bed like a conveyor. once it’d warmed up, she touched it tentatively with her finger, cringed and began working tediously on her hair. some fifteen minutes later, loose ringlets had transformed from her bleak, flaxen locks. emerald gaze flipped to the bed as she wandered over, slipping off her plaid pajama shorts and into a pair of black skinny jeans. now to pick out a shirt, which wasn’t difficult, a simple oversized creme colored silk top that hung off the shoulders. now she was ready to go.
slipping on a pair of black heels, phaedra headed for the front door, extracted her phone from her clutch along the way and shooting atticus a quick text to meet her at paradox. then she was outside, the wind blowing her curls this way and that as she made her way down the sidewalk. after a quick drive, she was more than pleased to see the night club in which harbored the bar. pushing her way to the front of the line, she entered the place with ease; being friends with the owner had it's perks. the dim overhead lighting mixed with the thick waft of cigarette smoke greeted phaedra and she found her deep green gaze traveling the distance of the room as it circled around the modern modeled bar, all types littering the room evenly. after she found seats edging around the bar, phae found himself closest to the back of the room, the lighting not substantial to let her gaze around at the occupants of the surrounding tables. the alcohol was poured freely as she found herself on her forth shot of tequila; the drink of choice not even being by her own choice. she took whatever was slid in her direction and downed it without a care, hoping the remembrance of the last few weeks in their entirety could somehow disappear with each open throated gulp.
